Looking at the illustration above, you can see the distribution of body fat. Understanding this, you will not see the worry and panic when you follow DAS and your body’s measurement doesn’t reduce at all.

The first is subcutaneous fat - fat under the skin, can be touched, very easily. This fat is only about half the total of the body fat only.

The remaining 1/2 of our body fat is visceral fat located in the abdomen, inside the body. This fat, we cannot feel.

Most of followers of DAS always think they can quickly to reduce the number of measurement loops and be thin quickly. But no one has enough knowledge to look at the problem of fat loss in term of scientific at all. This is one of the mistakes that mindset you need to give up and change.

Author notes: Something DAS followers need to remember

If fat is man, it would probably be condemned unjust, most wrong on this earth. It is attributed to all sorts of crimes even though fat absolutely do not do anything to cause obesity, heart disease, blood fat, unhealthy or whatever. And the truth is, Fat is very beneficial to the body because:

- Fat as energy for mental body is better than carbohydrates. Because energy from fat is stable and long-term. Help we eat little all day without hunger and tired.

- Fat increases the body's immune system, and as a solvent to absorb nutrients into the body. Fat also helps lubricate muscles, joints and reduce muscle pain.

- Fat takes care of beautiful chestnut ruddy skin, reduce acne, thanks to fat which has more collagen to increase the elasticity of the skin. This feature is no one kind of cosmetics to be.

Because the essential characteristic of Fat, Natural has "integrated" fat into the meat products, eggs, fish v ... v. Even in breast milk saturated fat content is very high, to provide nutrients, enhance the immune system to children. Breastfed babies are developing a more comprehensive than children not breastfed.

Yet today we are deliberately going against nature by boycott away everything related to fat, skim milk, chicken without the skin ect…

In short, if you want a comprehensive health and beauty, Fat is your faithful effectively companion.

After a period of research and testing, DR Anh has found out EDAS the 6-1 mode is perfect for DAS follower for the following reasons:

1. 6 days low calories, low CARB for the body to burn fat enough. Enough to prepare the body into a state of depression.

2. 1 day relax with High Calories, High Carb will shock the whole metabolism of the body -> burn fat faster in the following days, helps the body not fall into a depression too long -> slowly reduce fat.

3. Suitable for schedule of officer, from Monday to the Saturday diet seriously then Sunday relax. You can eat whatever you want.

Author notes: For me, I choose EDAS with 3-1-2-1 mode. Because it is easy to follow (more of that I can't stand not to eat carb 6 days). How about you guys?

Many women are overweight, then find ways to be able to lose weight quickly. Psychological grasp, many salons offer attractive advertising such as slimming massage, melt belly fat. However, its performance is not really as they said.

1. Massage increases the activity of the musculoskeletal

This is only a passive approach stimulates the circulatory system in place rather increases musculoskeletal activity. Therefore, in principle there is no power consumption during the massage.

2. Steaming, hot wrapping

Steaming only causes the body to sweat more, causing weight loss-in short time. But after that, the body will adjust and add water to balance physiological. So losing weight by this way is not substance. It is only useful when you need to quickly fit in the beautiful dress in a certain event.

3. Cellulite cream

When using this method, it is only effective same as massage. Even when the active ingredient in the cream really work, it is difficult to take the fat penetrates deep as lower abdomen, hips, thighs. Currently, some salons use that methods with herbal, advertise that will lose belly fat and help increase fat metabolism, but the real effect is not clear yet.

4. Reduce fat by using electrical impulses

It is considered very little effective. Although, in terms of form, the movement also happens, but it is kind of passive movement, very low energy consumption, not even compare with walking.

5. Abdominal liposuction

This cause subcutaneous fat in the waist area, abdomen, thighs reduced significantly. However, this is how beauty affects health. Weight loss after liposuction is not entirely fat that contains nearly 60% water.

6. Abdominal belts and heated massage

The effects of abdominal belts certainly lower than the hand massage. Temperature to melt the fat in the body is often very high. So, unable to melt the fat under the temperature that does not hurt the skin and other cells.

Model of a standard Mc Donald meal includes: fries, hamburger and cocacola

People think McDonalds or other fast food type are the causes of obesity due to using too much greasy, and fatty meat and ect. Even McDonald has been forced to reduce the fat content in their product - ie using lean beef, then reduce grease in potato chips, reduced fat mayonnaise sauce etc

Yet, eventually the number of obese people because of McDonald gave no reduction, even increased. Although McDonald tried hard to reduce fats in their meal?

So the reason is? The answer is simple. We have concluded the wrong culprit of obesity. The culprit is obesity, not fat, or lipid. But which is in rapid metabolism Carb – in Mc Donald case is cocacola’s sugar, hamburger shells made from refined wheat flour, potato starch filled.

Because of misperceptions perpetrators of obesity. We have failed in the fight against the obesity epidemic - simply because the reduction of fat in the daily meal will lead us enhance more carbohydrate to eat up to replace -> fat becomes fatter.

SO WRONG

Doing an at-home workout program offers a number of clear advantages compared to going to the gym, and for many people, it’s simply the only approach that they can keep up with. An at-home workout saves you the cost of a gym membership, and for those who are tight on time, it can be more ideal since you can just step right into your basement and get started.

Learning which movements are going to serve you best for your at-home workout will help ensure that you can create one that’s time-effective and will bring you the results that you’re looking for.

With just a simple set of dumbbells and your own body weight, you can perform any of the exercises listed. If these are too difficult or not challenging enough, look up the progression series online to find the right adjustment for you.

The Details:

· Push-Ups. Push-ups can be performed with the hands or feet up on the couch, or if you want a real challenge, with your feet up on an exercise ball instead.

· Squats. Bodyweight squats are a great movement for getting your heart rate higher and working all the muscles in the lower body.

· Split squats. Placing one leg up on a bench behind you, move into the lunge position, your front leg bent at a 90-degree angle. This variation is a perfect way to challenge your glutes and build a stronger butt.

· Deadlifts. Dumbbell deadlifts are a great strength-building exercise that targets your lower back and burns plenty of calories.

· Shoulder presses. This movement is good for hitting all three heads of the shoulder muscles while working the triceps at the same time.

· Chair dips. This exercise can be done on any chair you have around the house and is a great move for burning underarm flab.

· Reverse lunges. If you want to really challenge your core, this exercise will work the lower body as well. Just be sure to do it in an open space for safety.

· Jump lunges. This exercise is excellent for hitting the entire lower body while burning up a high amount of calories at the same time. If you don’t have more than a few minutes to spare, do these lunges to make the most of your workout time.

· Bent-over rows. You can’t beat this exercise for building a stronger back while strengthening your biceps.

· Mountain climbers. This cardio movement will burn up calories and strengthen the core all at once.

· Chest press. Doing this dumbbell move is a good way to challenge the chest, shoulders and triceps. Be sure to keep your back pressed into the floor at all times to avoid straining your lower back.

Author notes: If you don't want to go to gym for whatever reasons, why don't you try all those exercise below in your own home?

Impatient:

People who just follow DAS after 7-10 days and didn’t receive what they expect ( like losing 5-10 kgs) – impossible. And then they GIVE UP.

Eating too much:

After 14 days, theory has stated that we only should eat enough for the body’s need. But the newbie just eat whatever they want even they feel full already. We said that we don’t eat CARB so we can stop the fat making process but eating too much (even not CARB), the body still have lots of energy. That’s when you don’t gain weigh but also not losing either

The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence

Not only DAS but also follow many other methods. The result is NOTHING WORKS.

Author Notes: Ok first of all I have to say sorry again for not posting regular as before (my personal reasons). And yes for all that time I have not followed Low CARb/ DAS completely and the result as I mentioned in the previous post, I had gain some weights (again). SoI talked to DR Anh about my depression of my failed diet and he gave me some words (those mistakes above). Yes I made all three of them and I feel like I have to to it all over again. If you guys have the same problems as me or make the same mistake, don't worry we can try again. Try and try and try until we are successful.

Being too heavy may cost you your life — literally. Scientists say overweight people die one year earlier than expected and that moderately obese people die up to three years prematurely.

Doctors have long warned that being overweight can lead to health complications including heart disease, stroke and cancer, and previous studies have already found that extra pounds can take years off your life, based mostly on data from Europe and North America.

In the new study, which the authors say is the largest-ever such analysis, researchers sifted through data for nearly 4 million non-smoking adults in 32 countries published from 1970 to last year. They compared the risk of death to people's body mass index, or BMI, a measure of body fat that is calculated using height and weight.

Overweight people lose a year of life on average and moderately overweight people lose three years, said Richard Peto of Oxford University, one of the study authors. A previous study found that being severely obese could cost as much as eight years of life.

The study also found that being obese is far more dangerous for men than for women.

"The excess risk of premature death is about three times as big for a man who gets fat as for a woman who gets fat," Peto said. Men tend to be higher risk for earlier death in general, and the risk worsens when obesity is added to the equation, he said.

According to the World Health Organization, 15 percent of women worldwide and 11 percent of men are obese. Overall, the WHO estimates that more than 1 billion adults are overweight and another 600 million people are obese.

Carrying too much weight is now second to smoking as a cause of premature death in North America and Europe; smoking causes about a quarter of all premature deaths there while being too heavy now causes about 14 to 20 percent of such deaths.

Peto acknowledged that more is needed than to simply advise people to lose weight, because dropping even a few pounds and keeping them off is notoriously difficult.

"It might be easier to recommend that people try very hard not to put on weight in the first place, particularly before they hit middle age," he said

Author note: After a long busy week, with all negative emotions effect, I have lost to myself and addicted to CARB, yes, AGAIN ( I have to admit, sugar and carb really make you feel better when you're down). So I think I have to read something to warn myself (and you guys who also have your own diet plan) and wake me up from my own "misery". This article is based on Science Study and it is what happen now in our world. Not only mine or your problem, it is a problem to human :( So don't give up my friend, we still have the chance to help ourselve and put a good effect on the others. Keep it up guys.

Why LOW CARB always sticks with HIGH FAT?

Whether you follow to DAS or EDAS is always required high fat. Even when cutting (relax day) under the DAS is also not allowed to eat low-fat, but always keep the protein-fat is 50-50 percentage. Why we have to eat HIGH FAT?

  • Usually we use CARB as energy. Now that we do not eat CARB anymore and replaced by FAT. That require the loaded FAT has to be always high to make the body's main energy.
  • If Fat loaded not enough, then the body will be tired, hungry, not enough energy. Especially when working in the office, the body need even more energy that means we need more FAT.
  • Always prepare high fat food to eat whenever you feel tired. If not, we can be easily to crave for CARB and then our diet has failed completely.
  • Eat plenty of fat helps the body to forget sweets cravings.
In summary, the more FAT you EAT, the more chance you will be successful in DAS diet regime.

Author Notes: This is what I conclude from my own experience so I don't really know if it works for everyone or not. But it's the truth when I follow DAS and use to eat FAT instead CARB, my addiction for milk tea has decreased a lot and that makes me feel a lot lighter than before. Of coure, there's still a long way to go ant yet I'm still on my way :)

DAS and low blood pressure

Nowadays the way we treat low blood pressure is not really work. Because we only focus on the top of problem. It means the doctor just simply gives some medicines to patient but not focus on the root causes of disease. That’s why low blood pressure patients never fully recover.

For people with low blood pressure, their bodies do not have the ability to keep their blood pressure as normal person. So when eating carbohydrates, the patient's blood pressure shot up, then when Carb worn off, the blood pressure will drop to a sudden -> cause potentially dangerous deadly.

It will be useless if you take whatever medicine but still continue to eat CARB. So for people suffering from low blood pressure, then it is the best to follow the DAS as it will cure the root:

- When following LOW CARB/DAS regime, body operating under the Fat Metabolism so we don’t need to use CARB as energy, but FAT, instead.

- Patient's blood pressure will be stable by not eating carbohydrates. So we can see that the disease has been cured from the root. Gradually over time, as health improves, blood pressure to stabilize, eat Carb also not be affected much blood pressure and body because the body was used to use FAT as energy.

Author Notes: Another post, another benefit from LOW CARB/DAS. I feel like CARB is something destroy our health gradually. However, there's still good carb and bad carb. All we need to do is choosing wisely between them to have a good health. To discuss more about it, I will try to research more and post about this topic later.

Childhood obesity is a complex health issue. It occurs when a child is well above the normal or healthy weight for his or her age and height. The main causes of excess weight in youth are similar to those in adults, including individual causes such as behavior and genetics. Behaviors can include dietary patterns, physical activity, inactivity, medication use, and other exposures. Additional contributing factors in our society include the food and physical activity environment, education and skills, and food marketing and promotion.

Consequences of obesity

Health risks now

  • Obesity during childhood can have a harmful effect on the body in a variety of ways. Children who are obese have a greater risk of –
  • High blood pressure and high cholesterol, which are risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD). In one study, 70% of obese children had at least one CVD risk factor, and 39% had two or more.
  • Increased risk of impaired glucose tolerance, insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes.
  • Breathing problems, such as sleep apnea, and asthma.
  • Joint problems and musculoskeletal discomfort.
  • Fatty liver disease, gallstones, and gastro-esophageal reflux (i.e., heartburn).
  • Psychological stress such as depression, behavioral problems, and issues in school.
  • Low self-esteem and low self-reported quality of life.
  • Impaired social, physical, and emotional functioning.

Health risks later

  • Children who are obese are more likely to become obese adults. Adult obesity is associated with a number of serious health conditions including heart disease, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and cancer.
  • If children are obese, obesity and disease risk factors in adulthood are likely to be more severe
Credit: https://www.cdc.gov/obesity

Author Notes: I have just read this new this morning and I think Obesity is not only a problem for adult but also for children. "Prevention is better than cure". So to prepare a better future for our child we should change our habit from now. To be a good example for them, to guide them, we have to take a good care of ourself. Change your diet, exercise more and teach your child about how to select healthy food. That's when OBESITY can not harm us anymore.

There are three main kinds of Alcoholic Drinks

A. Alcohol produced by distillation method. - No Carb.

Some types of alcohol, such as vodka, rum, brandy (cognac), whiskey, gin, Tequilla, s\rice wine. They are produced by the distillation of alcohol that means after being fermented by the raw High Carb material then boiled and evaporated -> finished wine.

Thus the wines are no carbohydrates.

B. Alcohol produced by fermentation methods. High Carb

Beer, wine, cider, sake is the type of alcoholic beverage fermented from oats, rice, grapes, fruit v ... v. After fermentation, the wine is filtered, but not distilled. So in this method, alcohol and beer include a lot of CARB.

No exact figures for Carb content of all types of alcoholic drinks of this type but we can guess it. For example, average about 15 grams Carb /100ml beer. So we should avoid those kinds of alcohol.

C. Fruit Wines

Such as champagne with added sugar, or alcohol cherry fruit syrup extra ect... This kind is extremely High Carb. ABSOLUTE ABSTINENCE

Conclusion: Generally DAS not encourage followers to use alcohol often because it is very harmful to health. This tutorial is written with the primary purpose to help Low carb/DASer can select wines while going out and having fun with friends and not afraid of violating the regime.

Alzheimer's (memory loss - absent-minded disease) is the most common amnesia in the elderly and there is currently no method or medication for it.

The old have regimen with high carb that run the risk of leading to cognitive impairment in low level – predecessor of Alzheimer- with the rate 4 times higher than others. A recent study by the prestigious Mayo Clinic in America also found the links between higher consumption of CARB with high risk of Amnesia.

Meanwhile, protein and fat is capable of protecting the body from symptoms of this cognitive impairment. The author of the study, Professor Rosebud Roberts of the Department of Epidemiology - Mayocho Hospital said the majority of those who suffer from symptoms of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) will progress to Alzheimer's disease.

MCI is symptomatic dementia about themselves and those around them, but no change in personality and mood. In the UK, there are about 800,000 people of memory decline, of which each year includes 60,000 deaths. It is estimated that for every 100 people, there will be six people develop the symptoms of Alzheimer's disease.

The previous researches shows that every year, we have 10-15% of people with mild cognitive impairment will continue to develop to the stage of intellectual decline.

"A high carbohydrate intake could be bad for you because carbohydrates impact your glucose and insulin metabolism," Dr. Roberts says. "Sugar fuels the brain — so moderate intake is good. However, high levels of sugar may actually prevent the brain from using the sugar — similar to what we see with type 2 diabetes."
She added that high sugar levels can affect brain blood vessels which play an important role in the development of beta amyloid plaques - toxic protein to the brain found in Alzheimer's patients. It is believed that this is the main reason causing the disease.

People whose diets includes useful fats which in nuts and healthy oils reduce by 42% likely to develop cognitive impairment, and those who absorb more protein in meat, fish reduces the risk 21%.

In the human body has two nervous systems known as Vegetative and Animals. Vegetative nervous system is one we do not use the brain or thoughts to control. For example, how the heart beats, how the blood circulation happens? All of them are caused by the vegetative nervous system control.

On the other hand, animal nervous system is one we use brain to control such as moving, speaking, ect..

Parkinson is the result of neurological disorders vegetation. Nowadays, the scientific literature has demonstrated that the main cause of disorder of vegetative nervous system control is CARBOHYDRATE.

From this of neurological disorders vegetation, it develops to all kinds of diseases related to neurological as epilepsy, amnesia, Parkinson, ect..

According to the scientific research here [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], the LOW-CARB - KETOGENIC diet has healing effects trembling hands - Parkinson - very effective.

For those who has (or your relatives) Parkinson or any diseases related to of disorder of vegetative nervous system, you can use DAS method as a cheap and safe therapy with no side affects and absolutely natural.

The purpose of DAS is proving: "Eating CARBOHYDRATE in a long time with a big a mount is the “culprit” causing many diseases these days."

Author Notes: Continues to the previous posts, I and Dr Anh have discussed a lot and it makes me more surprise to know that LOW CARB/ DAS is not only the diet method but also can cure a lot of diseases without using medications. He provided me a lot of researchs to study by myself. So these days, a long with my diet plan, I also try to study more about LOW  CARB/ DAS'S benefits. With my narrow knowledge, I will make every effort to share with you guys all everything I found out.
Of course, I am not a scientist or nutritionist, so I only post what I UNDERSTAND.

What is Diabetes?

There are 2 types of Diabetes:
  • Type 1 Diabetes: is caused by the body not secreting enough insulin to pull back to a stable blood sugar after eating carbohydrates.
  • Type 2 Diabetes: is caused by the body secreting too much insulin, in a long time, constantly causing disturbances -> the body resists to insulin -> do not reduce the blood sugar -> hypertension -> death.
In brief summary, diabetes is directly related to carbohydrates. Since carbohydrate is the only cause of high blood sugar level and the patients have to use the insulin to reduce it.

Because the meal we eat everyday is still having carb so the Diabetes patients have to use medicine or inject Insulin in the body. However, if you use those medicines in a long time, it will effect your health in a bad way (kidney failure and other complications) (*)

In summary, the usual treatment only makes diabetics try their best to exists, not radical treatment.

What is the best Solution for Diabetics?

The best solution for diabetes patients is following the Low Carb method. Because according to the scientific documents, published here [1], [2], [3], [4], [5] showed that Low Carb is very effective in treating diabetes.

Even ADA - American Diabetes Association used to against Low Carb very strong before, saying it is bad, but now when facing of a lot of scientific documents have proven Low Carb very effective in treating diabetes, they (ADA) has been forced to recognize Low Carb as one diet therapies for patients with diabetes. [6]

In US, there is one Treating Diabetes with Low Carb book (has been published long time ago) of Richard K. Bernstein – who is regarded as one of the world's leading experts in the treatment of diabetes. [7].

Low Carb / DAS has the following advantages when treating diabetes:

_ Removing Carb and replace it with Fat. It will make your blood sugar stable immediately without any medicine.

- Healthy and refreshing body, mental clarity because the body is supplied with full nutrients from the Fat and Protein.

- Do not have to worry about the side effects of diabetes medicine. Reduce the money burden for patients

_ Because Carb is cut out of meals so your blood sugar will be stable, after a period of treatment, your body will no longer be resistant to insulin, patients can eat Carb (again) gradually and return to normal life (of course, not too much Carb), or follow the eDAS method with “Low Carb days alternating with High Carb days”

Author Notes: As I mentioned in the previous post, I have asked DR Anh about some Document when he said LOW CARB/DAS can CURE the DIABETES. So I have read and sum up in this post. He also sent me some links for references so you guys can check them out. For me, I will try to explain to my parent and convince them to follow DAS. Till now my parent still dont't believe that cutting carb and eat more fat will make them healthy. How about you guys? Do you think that LOW CARB and DAS is the best solution for DIABECTICS?

Being overweight increases the chances of developing the common type of diabetes, type 2 diabetes. In this disease, the body makes enough insulin but the cells in the body have become resistant to the salutary action of insulin. Why does this happen?

New Research: A report this week in Science proposes that being overweight stresses the insides of individual cells. Specifically, overeating stresses the membranous network inside of cells called endoplasmic reticulum(ER). When the ER has more nutrients to process than it can handle, it sends out an alarm signal telling the cell to dampen down the insulin receptors on the cell surface. This translates to insulin resistance and to persistently high concentrations of the sugar glucose in the blood -- one of the sure signs of diabetes.

How does my weight relate to type 2 diabetes?

There are many risk factors for type 2 diabetes such as age, race, pregnancy, stress, certain medications, genetics or family history, high cholesterol and obesity. However, the single best predictor of type 2 diabetes is overweight or obesity. Almost 90% of people living with type 2 diabetes are overweight or have obesity. People who are overweight or have obesity have added pressure on their body's ability to use insulin to properly control blood sugar levels, and are therefore more likely to develop diabetes. The number of diabetes cases among American adults increased by a third during the 1990s, and additional increases are expected. This rapid increase in the occurrence of diabetes is mostly attributed to the growing prevalence of obesity in the United States.

What can you do to prevent diabetes?

Type 2 diabetes is largely preventable. Studies have found that lifestyle changes and small amounts of weight loss in the range of 5-10% can prevent or delay the development of type 2 diabetes among high-risk adults. Lifestyle interventions including diet and moderate to intense physical activity (such as walking for 150 minutes per week) were used in these studies to produce small amounts of weight loss. The development of diabetes was reduced by 40% to 60% during these studies, which lasted three to six years. Preventing weight gain, increasing activity levels and working toward small amounts of weight loss if you are overweight can have a big impact on the likelihood that you will develop diabetes in the future. Thus far, weight management is the best thing you can do to prevent the development of diabetes.

What can you do if you already have diabetes?

You can have a positive influence on your blood sugar and your overall health by choosing foods wisely, exercising regularly, reducing your stress levels, making modest lifestyle changes and using medications to lower blood glucose levels. Type 1 diabetic patients must have insulin exogenously applied to maintain healthy blood glucose levels. Type 2 diabetic patients, however, can use insulin or drugs that sensitize their bodies to insulin, which work quite well in lowering blood glucose levels. Unfortunately, these drugs are not without risk as they, as well as the exogenous application of insulin, can often cause diabetic patients to suffer from low blood glucose levels (hypoglycemia) if taken improperly, which may result in seizures, unconsciousness, or death. Small amounts of weight loss (losing 10 pounds or more) can decrease the amounts of these medications needed to keep your blood sugar levels within a healthy range by lowering your blood glucose levels, which furthermore reduces the risk of diabetic complications. Ultimately, better nutrition, increased physical activity, and control of blood glucose levels can delay the progression of diabetes and help prevent the complications associated with the disease.

Author notes: I have posted about the health effect of Obesity before and even have told you about my parent's situations. That's why I will try to research more about how to reduce the effect of Diabetes as less as possible. I have even asked Dr Anh (the owner of DAS method) that if I have any chance to cure Diabetes by following DAS and he said yes. However, I still need to discuss with him more about the research to prove what he said is true (I will post it later). Anyway, you have to try your best to stay healthy. Exercie and eating "healthy food" is all you can do to prevent yourself from any diseases.

Obesity has a far-ranging negative effect on health. Each year obesity-related conditions cost over 150 billion dollars and cause an estimated 300,000 premature deaths in the US. The health effects associated with obesity include, but are not limited to, the following:

High blood pressure

- Additional fat tissue in the body needs oxygen and nutrients in order to live, which requires the blood vessels to circulate more blood to the fat tissue. This increases the workload of the heart because it must pump more blood through additional blood vessels. More circulating blood also means more pressure on the artery walls. Higher pressure on the artery walls increases the blood pressure. In addition, extra weight can raise the heart rate and reduce the body's ability to transport blood through the vessels.

Diabetes

- Obesity is the major cause of type 2 diabetes. This type of diabetes usually begins in adulthood but, is now actually occurring in children. Obesity can cause resistance to insulin, the hormone that regulates blood sugar. When obesity causes insulin resistance, the blood sugar becomes elevated. Even moderate obesity dramatically increases the risk of diabetes.
Heart disease – Atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) is present 10 times more often in obese people compared to those who are not obese. Coronary artery disease is also more prevalent because fatty deposits build up in arteries that supply the heart. Narrowed arteries and reduced blood flow to the heart can cause chest pain (angina) or a heart attack. Blood clots can also form in narrowed arteries and cause a stroke.
Joint problems, including osteoarthritis - Obesity can affect the knees and hips because of the stress placed on the joints by extra weight. Joint replacement surgery, while commonly performed on damaged joints, may not be an advisable option for an obese person because the artificial joint has a higher risk of loosening and causing further damage.

Sleep apnea and respiratory problems

- Sleep apnea, which causes people to stop breathing for brief periods, interrupts sleep throughout the night and causes sleepiness during the day. It also causes heavy snoring. Respiratory problems associated with obesity occur when added weight of the chest wall squeezes the lungs and causes restricted breathing. Sleep apnea is also associated with high blood pressure.

Cancer

- In women, being overweight contributes to an increased risk for a variety of cancers including breast cancer, colon, gallbladder, and uterus. Men who are overweight have a higher risk of colon cancer and prostate cancers.
Metabolic syndrome - The National Cholesterol Education Program has identified metabolic syndrome as a complex risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Metabolic syndrome consists of six major components: abdominal obesity, elevated blood cholesterol, elevated blood pressure, insulin resistance with or without glucose intolerance, elevation of certain blood components that indicate inflammation, and elevation of certain clotting factors in the blood. In the US, approximately one-third of overweight or obese persons exhibit metabolic syndrome.

Psychosocial effects

- In a culture where often the ideal of physical attractiveness is to be overly thin, people who are overweight or obese frequently suffer disadvantages. Overweight and obese persons are often blamed for their condition and may be considered to be lazy or weak-willed. It is not uncommon for overweight or obese conditions to result in persons having lower incomes or having fewer or no romantic relationships. Disapproval of overweight persons expressed by some individuals may progress to bias, discrimination, and even torment.
