Alzheimer's (memory loss - absent-minded disease) is the most common amnesia in the elderly and there is currently no method or medication for it.
The old have regimen with high carb that run the risk of leading to cognitive impairment in low level – predecessor of Alzheimer- with the rate 4 times higher than others. A recent study by the prestigious Mayo Clinic in America also found the links between higher consumption of CARB with high risk of Amnesia.
Meanwhile, protein and fat is capable of protecting the body from symptoms of this cognitive impairment. The author of the study, Professor Rosebud Roberts of the Department of Epidemiology - Mayocho Hospital said the majority of those who suffer from symptoms of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) will progress to Alzheimer's disease.
MCI is symptomatic dementia about themselves and those around them, but no change in personality and mood. In the UK, there are about 800,000 people of memory decline, of which each year includes 60,000 deaths. It is estimated that for every 100 people, there will be six people develop the symptoms of Alzheimer's disease.
The previous researches shows that every year, we have 10-15% of people with mild cognitive impairment will continue to develop to the stage of intellectual decline.
"A high carbohydrate intake could be bad for you because carbohydrates impact your glucose and insulin metabolism," Dr. Roberts says. "Sugar fuels the brain — so moderate intake is good. However, high levels of sugar may actually prevent the brain from using the sugar — similar to what we see with type 2 diabetes."
She added that high sugar levels can affect brain blood vessels which play an important role in the development of beta amyloid plaques - toxic protein to the brain found in Alzheimer's patients. It is believed that this is the main reason causing the disease.
People whose diets includes useful fats which in nuts and healthy oils reduce by 42% likely to develop cognitive impairment, and those who absorb more protein in meat, fish reduces the risk 21%.
